Tim Spengler
Initiative North America

Tim Spengler is President, Initiative North America with responsibility for the agency’s U.S. and Canadian operations. Tim is a member of Initiative’s worldwide leadership team and has joint responsibility for MAGNAGLOBAL - a multiplatform intelligence and strategic based investment group serving Interpublic Group’s (IPG) global clients.

Since being named President, Tim has overseen the agency’s transformation towards a performance led culture placing a strong emphasis on building analytics capabilities that create robust consumer insights directly aligned with a client’s business goals and objectives. During his tenure, he has been responsible for 25 new client wins including MillerCoors and Merck and is responsible for the customized Interpublic Group offerings: “MC Media” and “Element M” that serve those clients. The agency has also added flagship accounts including Hyundai & Kia Motors, Dr Pepper Snapple Group, PETCO, USAA a financial services giant and most recently Hasbro toys and children’s network The Hub to its roster of clients.

In addition to new business success, at his direction the agency has added significant capabilities in both buying and creative services through newly developed entities Amphibian and H+I, as well as the expansion of the agency’s Innovations unit which is now fully integrated into most account teams. During his tenure, Initiative has consistently received RECMA’s prestigious A-rating and continues to be recognized as one of the most innovative media companies in the U.S winning awards at every major media festival.

Prior to being named head of North America, Tim held positions of increasing responsibility at Initiative and most recently served as the agency’s Chief Activation Officer. His decision to re-align the firm’s buying departments, into one consolidated activation unit has been a catalyst in the agency's growth.

Tim’s achievements have also been widely recognized in the industry as well. In 2008, he was named TV Week’s Media Executive of the Year and has also been named Advertising Age’s Media Maven and an Adweek Media All-Star. He began his career with NW Ayer in the national broadcast department in 1986.

His work extends beyond the media industry as well. Tim is an advocate for Initiative’s participation in charities and events including City Meals on Wheels “Battle of the Bands” and the City of Hope Golf Classic benefiting the Tim Nesvig Lymphoma Fellowship and Research Fund. He has also been instrumental in launching Initiative’s first corporate philanthropy partnership with Free The Children.

Tim received his Bachelor of Arts from Washington University in St Louis, Missouri. He makes his home in suburban Connecticut with his wife and three small children.
