How You Can Help

You can impact the life of a child!

Have you been looking for a way to bring more meaning into your life - a way to give back?
If so, we have some great volunteer opportunities for you!

Here are the Volunteer Assignments available:

Family Visitation Coach
Provide support, coaching, and advocacy to families who are reunifying with their children and visiting with them on a weekly basis. Help the family to visit in a home-like atmosphere rather than in a sterile office space. Use your creativity to provide activities that engage the parents and children in natural interaction. Visits take place at Family Visitation Centers located at churches in the San Fernando Valley.

As a volunteer coach, you will support, “cheerlead” and provide overall assistance to the parents to ensure that the visit goes smoothly, providing re-direction and advice when needed. The commitment is for two hours per week for 6-12 months. Volunteers must be over 21 years old and must complete a 24 hour training and certification provided at no cost to the volunteer. Training will be provided by Friends of the Family and includes all materials and ongoing supervision and support.

Safe Child Custody Exchange Monitor
Help to ensure a friendly nurturing environment for children as they are transferred back and forth between custodial and non-custodial parents who have not yet established a good working parental relationship. Help the children to avoid experiencing bitter stressful interchanges between their parents as they share custody. Most exchanges take place in the evenings or on weekends at LAPD stations in Reseda and Mission Hills.

This volunteer commitment is for three hours per week for 6-12 months. Volunteers must be over 21 years old and must complete a 24 hour training and certification provided at no cost to the volunteer. Training will be provided by Friends of the Family and will include all materials and ongoing supervision and support.
