The 2014 Families Matter Benefit, held on Wednesday, March 26, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, was a great success. The event was attended by over 200 guests and raised over $180,000 for the organization’s roster of effective family strengthening and support programs. Additionally, a portion of the funds will be used to support the agency’s long-awaited move to a new larger facility and campus that will greatly enhance the agency’s impact in the community.
Justin Willman, host of Food Network’s Cupcake Wars and Disney Channel’s Win, Lose, or Draw treated the audience to his warm humor and amazing magic tricks as Master of Ceremonies for the evening’s program. The Family of the Year Award was presented to Bladimir Villalta in recognition of his outstanding achievements as a young father. With the help of the agency’s Young Dads program, Blad has overcome major obstacles to create a warm and nurturing home for his family. Musical entertainment was provided by the 2014 Friends of the Family Glee Club composed of twelve talented young girls from FOF’s afterschool programs. The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Spotlight Award to Melissa Joan Hart, in honor of her long-standing commitment to Friends of the Family and to all causes that benefit children and families.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to our Event Committee and everyone who contributed to the event’s success – sponsors, guests, volunteers, entertainers, speakers, and auction donors. The proceeds from this event provide crucial support for the work of Friends of the Family. On behalf of all the children and families who benefit from FOF services, we thank you!
